What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a form of (emotional) body work that uses fascia (connective tissue). The goal is to support the body's self-healing capacity. By means of soft listening and deeply feeling touch, possibly in combination with dialogue, awareness is developed of physical signals, needs and boundaries.
Increased tension in the fascia can have various causes and lead to various complaints. In CST you work on relaxing the fascia. When a therapist makes good contact with your tissue (fascia), you can feel yourself and the tensions in your body better. You listen to what your tissue is trying to tell you. You learn to investigate and recognize the meaning of pain, tension and complaints. Old painful memories of traumas or accidents may surface. You can come into contact with emotions, feelings or long-lost wishes or needs. Processing this provides relaxation and new strength.
Somato Emotional Release (SER)
SER is a natural part of CST. By working deep into the fascia with your hands, the body responds with its own wisdom and seeks freedom of movement. This leads to an 'unwinding' of the tissue, which can take your entire body with it - a wonderful experience! During unwinding, contact is created with painful memories, because your body 'remembers' what it was like, for example after a car accident, a fall down the stairs, or an emotionally charged event. With guidance during the unwinding you can become aware of these memories and process them.
